So… Dylan and I have been keeping a secret! It feels like it’s been a lifetime since the decision was made and I’ve been waiting so long to share with all of you! All I’ve wanted to do the last few months was to talk about it, but with so many puzzle pieces to put together, I knew I had to wait until it was officially official and really happening. The big news is thattt… we’re moving to California!! Whaaat?! Yep, it’s true! We’re leaving the East coast and heading West to the sunshine and surf (on Dylan’s behalf. I grew up in 3 feet of snow making igloos in the backyard). This is all probably really confusing for those of you who’ve been following along on Instagram since we just finished renovating and moving into our home in New York! So, I’ll share a bit more of where this decision came from and answer as many questions as I can that our friends and family had as well…
I’ll start off by saying that California has always been on the back burner of my mind. When I was about to graduate college and looking for an internship, the only places I looked at were California and NYC since I’d happily live in both places. The reason I ended up moving to NYC was because my uncle got me an internship there, and I ended up staying after my internship because my cousin helped me get the job I was looking for in NYC. Right after I accepted the job, I met Dylan, and we ended up staying in New York and getting married! Some of the best memories that I have in life are those first few years living in NYC, meeting him, and meeting some of my best friends. I wouldn’t trade those memories and experiences for anything. However, being that Dylan is Australian, I would always ask him if California would ever be an option to move to since it’s closer to his family, he spends a lot of time in LA for work, he can basically fly anywhere in the world in one flight since he travels a lot, and the overall lifestyle of being outside and in the sun/nature seemed to suit both of us and what we love (I truly think he’s part dolphin. He’s a completely different person when he’s able to surf and be in the ocean). Moving to California was never really an option for certain reasons, so I laid it to rest after awhile.
Fast forward 7 years, and we just finished renovating our home in the New York Hudson Valley a few months ago in April. I finally unpacked all of our boxes after having them in storage for 15 months and living out of a suitcase for 15 months. It was heaven! We finally had a home! The day we officially finished renovating, we went to Whole Foods and bought some fresh ingredients to make a big, beautiful meal in our new kitchen and celebrate all of the hard work we just put into the house to make it ours. As we sat down to eat, Dylan got a message that things for his work will be moving out to California. So, basically, we had a big decision to make. After many talks about staying in New York or moving out there, we decided that California would be the best thing for us right now. With Dylan’s work out there, and my work being better out there, along with the overall lifestyle, being closer to his family, closer to my sister who I’m really close to, and all of the above reasons, we decided it’s a go! We weren’t sure how long it would take since we needed to wait to sell the house, but about 5 days after listing the house we received an amazing offer and accepted it. Things have been smooth sailing ever since, and all happening very quickly, so here we are ready to move in a few short weeks. And it all feels so right.
We’ll be moving to Orange County, about an hour south of Los Angeles, and while leaving New York has definitely had it’s bittersweet moments, we’re so excited to move to California. This might explain why I haven’t done a house tour since we finished the renovation, because we never really set anything up or bought any furniture. It feels so good to finally be able to share our exciting news with you! Thank you all for following along here and sharing in our new adventure! x
